Onitsha, Anambra State — All roads lead to Onitsha next Friday as the ancient commercial city prepares to host the 25th edition of the Ofalla Festival in a celebration expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage, traditions and identity of the Igbo people.
The festival, renowned for its colourful display of traditional regalia, music, dance and cultural pageantry, is set to attract traditional rulers, government officials, business leaders, cultural enthusiasts and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.
The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) is also expected to participate in the festival, highlighting the connection between cultural heritage, commerce, tourism and economic development.
The Ofalla Festival, one of the most prominent cultural celebrations in Onitsha, provides an opportunity to celebrate the traditional institution, promote Igbo customs and strengthen the city’s reputation as an important centre of commerce and cultural heritage.
Beyond its cultural significance, the festival offers opportunities to stimulate economic activities, particularly in hospitality, transportation, tourism, entertainment and small businesses. Local traders, artisans and other service providers are also expected to benefit from the increased movement of visitors during the celebration.
The participation of business stakeholders, including NACCIMA, underscores the potential of cultural festivals to promote investment, encourage networking and create partnerships that support local enterprise and community development.
As preparations gather momentum, the 25th edition of the Ofalla Festival is expected to bring together culture, tradition, business and entertainment in a colourful celebration of Onitsha’s enduring heritage.
The festival also presents an opportunity to promote cultural preservation and pass traditional values to younger generations while positioning Onitsha as a destination for cultural tourism.
