APC WOMEN ADVOCATE FOR GENDER EQUALITY INCLUSION AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL
The ruling party government All Progressive Congress Party has been urged to practice promises it made by ensuring that women are not sidelined when the men are included in the leadership positions at the National level representation.
The former Deputy Governor of Lagos State,Mrs. Sarah Adebisi Sosan made this known on Thursday at the Lagos State Women in Leadership positions to a consultative forum held at WheatBaker Hotels ikoyi Lagos, that Nigeria operates a democracy that should allow no gender inequality in assigning positions at the State and the National level as it needs to include more women too in its political positions.
Sarah Sosan expressed that things needed to be done well now that the party should not hide under the fact that some women are not well read and buy them off from positions which women are interested to attain because the women also have professionals at the background who are interested about it.
She commended the Lagos State government which has given a lot of opportunities of representations to women in different levels.
She therefore expressed displeasure over the committee appointed at the Local government election where it comprised only the men without inclusion of women and the youths. She said our women needed to be represented progressively at all levels without segregation or sentiment and as well ready to support them financially to lobby the women to all level.
The Immediate past Deputy Governor,Dr. Idiat Adebule informed in her address that the women needed to do fundraising to support them as to enable to embrace the women and help them to assume the leadership position to the national level.
The National APC Women Leader of the Caretaker Committee,Hon. Okotiti Stella quoted this that to empower a women is to empower the nation that in order to change the narrative of gender inequality in Nigeria,at lease 3 women must be represented at the national level by the year 2023 in the All Progressive Congress party and ensure that more women are given the platforms. That the committee is already building the first law, capacity, empathy as admirer and the disciples of the state course to the executive positions because convention would be held by the end of June 2021. She said.
The Convener & State Women Leader of All Progressive Congress party Lagos State,Hon. Jumoke Okoya Thomas stated that the objective of the forum was to create a roadmap for the actualisation of the 30percent women representation(Beijing Conference Resolutions) in elective positions in our state.
She however said what former Governor of Lagos,Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu did in a couple of years back was brilliant and respected when he appointed 2 women to represent Lagos State at the National Assembly. She said it has made it very necessary to collate more of their list of women at the forum for presentation to their leaders.
She said also that there is need for redress at the local government election plans that there is a lot of complaints among women who got forms and of the facts and political mentality that their forms might likely be dropped out for another. And she urged the leaders to be compassionate at this level for inclusion and stop the issue of thug of war at the local government level because it is known that the law part of it is very essential and we are going to push it.
