IGP Disu Says New LSSTF Hqtrs is Greater Institutional Platform for National, State Policing Support • Hails Adebutu, Sanwo-Olu, Ogunsan for Security Contributions

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has applauded the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) for its longstanding contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, describing the Fund’s interventions as an important model of sustainable partnership in strengthening policing and Nigeria’s wider security architecture. He made the remarks during a visit and tour to the Fund’s new headquarters’ facilities on Assbifi Road, Alausa CBD Ikeja, on Saturday 7th November, 2026. His visit followed the recently commissioned edifice, for which he was not physically present but was well represented.

IGP Disu observed that LSSTF’s consistent investments in operational equipment, infrastructure, logistics and other critical requirements of the Nigeria Police Force had demonstrated the importance of sustained collaboration between government, the private sector and security institutions. His commendation comes against the backdrop of the significant development in Nigeria’s security architecture which involved the proposed establishment of State Police Services. He expressed confidence that the Fund’s new headquarters would provide a stronger institutional platform for expanding its capacity and delivering even greater support to the Nigeria Police Force and the upcoming State Police.

It would be recalled that the State Police proposal has secured the constitutionally required approval of at least two-thirds of the 36 State Houses of Assembly. Following the National Assembly’s confirmation of 30 state approvals on November 4, 2026, the amendment was transmitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assent, marking a major step towards the proposed decentralisation of policing in Nigeria.

The Police chief also expressed profound appreciation to renowned philanthropist and business mogul, Sir Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, GCON who singlehandedly funded the construction of the LSSTF’s new headquarters. He acknowledged the significance of such private-sector commitment to building institutions that directly contribute to public safety and national development. He also expressed appreciations to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the LSSTF’s CEO, Dr. Ogunsan for the continuous support to the Nigeria Police.

Responding, the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, thanked the IGP for the visit and his encouraging words. He reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, and the upcoming State Police through strategic interventions that enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen public safety. He also emphasised the importance of continued cooperation among security institutions, government and private-sector stakeholders in building a responsive and sustainable security framework.

Present at the visit and tour of the LSSTF’s new Headquarters facilities were the wife of the LSSTF ES/CEO, Dr. Ajoke Ogunsan, and the Fund’s Director of Administration, Mr. Adegbola Lewis. The IGP was accompanied by his wife and National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Olufunmilayo Mutiat Disu; AIG Zone 2, AIG Moshood Jimoh; Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani; Area Commander, ACP Sholla Omilade; ACP Aka Shittu (retd.); RRS Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye; CSP Olanrewaju Edwin; DPO Alausa Division, CSP Toyosi Shokunbi; CSP Oke Akinwunmi; PPRO Lagos Command, SP Adebisi Abimbola; ASP Olufemi Adeoye and other officers.
