The African Green movement Project AGMP a non-governmental organization on Friday powered the lives of 250 persons in the Molai Internally displaced persons settlement in Borno State
The initiative is supported by the GEF Small Grant Program implemented in Nigeria by the UNDP.
According to the project officer of AGMP Mr Theophilus Madaki, many of the internally displaced persons camps and settlements are without electricity, he said the Internally Displaced Persons were not just given the solar lights, they were trained on the installation and maintenance of the simple solar system which provides indoor and out light and a socket for charging of phones and torch lights. He added that the initiative started at the Bakassi Camp but following the closure of the camp some of the project beneficiaries relocated to Molai.
According to Aisha Musa, a beneficiary thanked the African Green Movement Project and SGP Nigeria for coming to their aide and providing clean energy for them. According to her, they will no longer spend money buying kerosene and her daughter can now do her home work in the evening.
