OSOGBO, Osun State — The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, pledging to deploy its grassroots political network across the state’s 30 local government areas to support his bid in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The endorsement was announced during the inauguration of the SWAGA 2.0 movement in Osun State, where the association said local government chairmen would spearhead the party’s final phase of mobilisation ahead of the poll.
Speaking on behalf of the 30 democratically elected local government chairmen, the Chairman of ALGON in Osun State and Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, described local governments as the foundation of political organisation and electoral mobilisation in the state.
He said the SWAGA 2.0 initiative represents a coordinated platform for consolidating support for progressive governance while complementing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through strengthened grassroots participation.
Abiodun expressed confidence that the existing political structures across wards and communities would translate into electoral success for the APC candidate.
“The 30 LGAs are one indivisible team. We have the structure in every ward, the trust in every town and the mandate of the people. We will convert the energy of SWAGA 2.0 into votes and secure victory for the APC and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji,” he said.
The association said its endorsement was based on Oyebamiji’s public service experience, citing his previous appointments as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Commissioner for Finance in Osun State and leader of the Osun State Investment Company Limited.
According to ALGON, the APC candidate possesses the administrative experience and economic management credentials required to advance development and improve governance across the state.
The local government chairmen also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for reforms promoting local government autonomy and judicial independence, describing them as measures that have strengthened governance at the grassroots and enhanced the capacity of councils to deliver development initiatives.
They noted that greater autonomy has improved the effectiveness of local governments by enabling them to respond more directly to the needs of residents.
As campaigns enter their final phase, the association appealed to political parties, supporters, traditional institutions, youth and women’s groups to maintain peace before, during and after the election.
ALGON also pledged to work with the APC leadership and security agencies to promote a peaceful, free and credible electoral process while safeguarding the integrity of the vote across all parts of the state, including identified flashpoints.
The chairmen expressed optimism that sustained grassroots mobilisation and coordinated campaign efforts would secure victory for the APC in the forthcoming governorship election.
They described the August 15 poll as an important opportunity for the people of Osun State to determine the state’s future direction through a peaceful democratic process.
